WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH, Ilsfeld celebrates, on the occasion of the LIGNA 2009 fair, 20 years of successful market presence for its WL4 series single shaft shredder.

The robust shredder is used in the woodworking industry to shred all types of wood materials, such as, e.g. surplus materials from chipboard, medium density fibreboard (MDF) and solid wood, right up to extremely hard woods. The shredded chips produced are normally used directly for burning as fuel or made into briquets. The company has successfully placed more than 5,000 WL4 machines in the worldwide market since 1989. A jubilee machine is now being presented at LIGNA 2009 that is impresses above all by its further detailed optimisation.

The jubilee machine is equipped with a rotor that has been developed further with a larger number of 28 rotor blades. Together with simultaneously increased rotation speed to 110 rpm, significantly higher throughput is now possible as a result, as more blades are simultaneously in operation. Depending on particle size and type of material, this can reach as much as 2-3 m³/h.

Intake of the materials to be shredded takes place via a hopper. The hopper is offered in new shapes, each specific to the tasks involved and with enlarged volumes that can enable intake of either larger or longer wood parts, depending on the equipment version.

The material is shredded between the rotor and stator blades and delivered via a screen located underneath the rotor. A slide that is controlled according to the load level forces the material to be shredded against the rotating rotor and has been provided with a new interval control system, so that it is pressed against the rotor even better, so that larger parts can also be optimally shredded.

The rotor has working width of 600 mm and rotor diameter of 252 mm. The power rating is either 11, 15 or 18.5 kW. The square, reversible rotor blades have a concave shape and edge length of 40 mm. The screen perforations of the screen used amount to 10-40 mm. Overall weight of the shredder is approx. 1,500 kg.

WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH has been constructing shredding machines for quite different tasks for more than 25 years, among others, for customers in the plastics, wood and recycling industries throughout the world. The company employs staff of approx. 200 and owns sales locations in France, United Kingdom, America and Japan, as well as having more than 50 representative agencies worldwide. The production programme includes, among others, single shaft shredders, twin and four-shaft shredders, cutting mills (granulators), briquetting presses and lines, as well as accessories.
