Rimini - At the inauguration of the 13th edition of Ecomondo International Trade Fair on Material & Energy Recovery & Sustainable Development, italian Undersecretary of State for the Environment Roberto Menia said, "Ecomondo is not an appointment like many others, but is the real reference appointment of the sector. A traditional meeting, increasingly strengthened year after year by the quality of what exhibiting companies propose. An international quality that shows how everything regarding the environment is not just 'ideological', but also extremely concrete, to the point that it has led to the "green economy", on which numerous expectations are concentrated for re-launching today's global economy."

There was eager expectation for the opening speech by Worldwatch Institute Chairman Christopher Flavin, who remarked, a few weeks from the environment summit in Copenhagen, on the need for more effective provisions for combating the greenhouse effect and carbon dioxide emission. The numerous personalities of world-level importance taking part in Ecomondo included Michael Braungart author of the book 'From cradle to cradle', who re-launched his conviction according to which man's action cannot tend towards the production of waste, but gradually cancel it, producing goods with materials that can be fed back into the biological cycle.

Gunther Pauli founder of Zero Emission, focused on innovation as the only possible driving force for the economy of the future. According to Pauli, it is necessary to talk of "blue economy", a new network where production and emission are closely connected. According to Pauli, zero emission can only be achieved if carbon dioxide is used in an alternative manner and not dispersed in the air or buried underground.

The Rimini Fiera environment show attracted a total of 63,332 visitors (2.35 percent less than 2008). There was an exceptional increase in foreign visitors, who rose to 5,066, up by 35 percent on 2008 figures.

Rimini Fiera chairman Lorenzo Cagnoni comments, "The expos dedicated to the environment system confirmed their strength, even in this complicated situation for the entire industrial system, the substantial steadiness in terms of attendance is a positive result. We believe it to be a success, since the event rewarded the ideas we fielded, all of which were successful at this edition and ready to expand in 2010. I'd like to draw attention to two further aspects: the extraordinary result of foreign visitors, a reward for the work and investments by Rimini Fiera in the market areas of interest to the companies; and then the growth element represented by Environment Festival, towards which we diverted some sectors of the educational initiatives and therefore of the public, with a view, whenever possible of action in the local area."

For 2010, the appointment with the "Rimini Environment System" is from November 3rd to 6th.
