This contract emphasizes Veolia Environmental Services' positioning with regards to Hong Kong's community, as playing a major role on the waste management and resource recovery market.

In addition to operations and maintenance of the facility, the contract includes the upgrade works to modify the flue gas treatment system to meet the more stringent stack gas emission standards of the European Union and the incinerator to treat medical waste in addition to hazardous waste.

The hazardous waste treatment facility has a designed capacity for 100,000 metric tonnes a year. Major treatment processes include incineration, physical/chemical treatment, oil/water separation and stabilization. The facility commenced operation in April 1993 by a joint venture with VES as the majority shareholder.

VES services the Hong Kong community through the operation of this only hazardous waste treatment facility, a secured landfill for municipal, general industrial and commercial waste, two transfer stations using marine vessels, a grease trap waste treatment facility and a waste collection entity offering services for the Disney theme park, food and construction industries, as well as five districts of Hong Kong which represent about two million inhabitants.
