Warshaw - The action of acquisition of electric energy saving bulbs in return of electrical and electronic waste is under way. The recent collection event which took place in the Wigry Lake National Park resulted in output amounting to 30 tonnes waste equipment gathered. That is the way the Ministry of the Environment tends to compensate the climate impact generated from electric energy consumed by the COP14 Climate Change Conference that was held in December 2008 in Poznan.

A respective number of energy saving electric bulbs rated 23 Watt, thread E27 are to be distributed per each kilogram of electrical and/or electronic waste. Distribution of the total of 35,000 such type bulbs will entirely offset that the COP14 CO2 emission. Recently, as much as 3340 bulbs were distributed in the locality of Krzywe near the Wigry Lake National Park.
When making preliminary comment on the recent action, Mr. Janusz Zaleski, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of the Environment, Chief Nature Conservator, said: "This action provides an excellent example of a link between the aspects beneficial to humans, i.e. the use of energy saving bulbs which result in households' financial savings on electricity, and the environmental benefits which contribute to climate protection. May I invite anyone concerned to participate in the next such actions".
The present idea to swap household electrical and/or electronic waste for electric energy saving bulbs was inaugurated at the Bialowieska Forest National Park in support of negotiations between the local communities concerned and the Ministry in relation to expansion of the Park acreage.
The aforementioned total number of bulbs planned to distribute will balance the total CO2 emission equivalent as estimated at about 16,420 tonnes CO2 that was generated by the COP14 Climate Change Conference held in Poznan, in 2008, including the aviation emissions resultant of more than 12 thousand participants worldwide, and their staying and servicing in Poznan.
