"We are very pleased with last year's collection of empty bottles, aluminum cans and cartons. The results show that the return system for beverage containers works well", says Kari Aa, section chief in the Climate and Pollution Control Directorate.

As in the past year, brewery and beverage association reports the best results. Virtually all reusable bottles made of plastic and glass was returned. Thus, they qualify for full exemption from environmental levy on beverage packaging next year. The same applies Ringnes AS' sales of the restaurant bottles.

The obtained return rates for 2009 [in percent] were:

* Brewery and Beverage Association: 101
* Norwegian Returkartong AS: schools and kindergartens: 92
* Norwegian Returkartong AS: beverage cartons: 80
* Norwegian Resirk AS:
* Box for beverage (aluminum and steel): 91
* For beverage bottles (recyclable PET): 89
* Plastic Return AS: 68
* Norwegian Glass Recycling AS: 89
