Warszawa, Poland - Waste is one of the major environmental problems in Poland which aims currently at implementation of its subsequent phase for a long-term strategic action under new 2014 National Waste Management Plan and its 2015-2022 Outlook that has been just passed on for the public consultations. According to the 2009 data provided by the Central Statistical Office, more than 86 percent of municipal waste collected in Poland is deposited on waste landfills, i.e. almost twice as much as the corresponding Community mean (47 percent, on average).

The deadline for completion of the public consultations on the Draft Proposal of the 2014 National Plan is 31 August 2010.
This new waste management plan covers waste originated domestically, in particular municipal waste, hazardous waste, packaging waste, and sewage sludge from urban waste water treatment plants, and also waste imported into Poland. It includes the whole range of the tasks which are required in order to attain the objective of rational and efficient waste management. It encompasses also the waste prevention programme by all particular types of waste, and also the strategy for reduction of biodegradable waste deposition on landfills.
The said National Waste Management Plan contains, amongst others, description of the current status of waste management in Poland, including displacement of existing waste treatment installations, as well as the changes anticipated in waste management sector. This document identifies also the current problems with waste and sets forth the target objectives in the field of waste management, including their implementation time-schedule, and the relevant methods for financing individual tasks, and monitoring and assessment of implementation of the Plan, as the whole.
