Dublin -- The Irish recycling organisation Repak has published its Activity Report 2010. In that year, Repak financed the recovery and recycling of just over 626,000 tonnes of used packaging: a decrease of 2.8 percent on the previous year. This is down from a high of 713,000 tonnes in 2008 recorded before the economic downturn. Since then the total packaging waste arisings have decreased in line with a contraction in the domestic economy. However as per 2009, Repak are confident that it has achieved a recovery and recycling rate of circa 65 to 67 percent which is in excess of the EU 2011 packaging recovery and recycling targets.
