The £1.15million loan from WRAP will enable ECO Plastics to extend its existing bottle sorting and processing facility, to now recycle a total of 150,000 tonnes of plastics annually. In 2010, around 1.28 million tonnes of waste were incinerated, an increase of 28 per cent compared to 2009. Of these, the incineration of 984.000 tonnes was within and 294.000 tonnes without energy utilization. Green groups Seas at Risk and EEB say the Commission should now act on this overwhelming support and implement a ban across Europe. The report shows that Repak has achieved – and surpassed – all of the recycling targets which both the EU and the Irish government have set for Ireland. Recovery rates of waste packaging in Ireland are now approaching 70 percent and are increasing each year. Summary figures for 2010 show that some 626,000 tonnes of packaging waste were recovered. The South Bay facility is home to one of the largest metal shredders in the Bay Area, and regularly shreds entire cars before exporting the metal overseas. The first ship carrying 2.000 tonnes of baled and sorted household waste has already sailed from Naples and is expected to dock in Rotterdam on 23 January. After arriving in the Netherlands, the waste will be incinerated and converted into energy. The latest recycling statistics are the highest quarterly recycling figures ever recorded for Wales, or indeed for any UK nation. Konkret landeten mehr als 140.000 Tonnen Kunststoffverpackungen in den Gelben Tonnen und Gelben Säcken. Das entspricht einem Plus von 1,2 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr. Auch Altpapier und Papierverpackungen erreichten 2011 mit rund 600.000 Tonnen eine Steigerung von 1,3 Prozent.
